It was high time that this awesome album would be available on vinyl and we couldn’t be happier with it. We have expanded the original album with two tracks of the same sessions that did appear on the SOME OTHER TIME 12”, the final Midnight Music release by THE SNAKE CORPS. We remastered it, created a brand new artwork for it all and… We bring you 3rd CUP as a limited, hand numbered edition split in two vinyl colours; 100 copies in translucent orange and 200 in standard black, housed in a matt finish sleeve with a double sided insert and download code. The Snake Corps was formed by two ex-members of Sad Lovers & Giants (Tristan Garel-Funk and Nigel Pollard) after the band first split in 1983. The pair were augmented by Marc Lewis on vocals and Liam McGuinness on bass. After some initial success building a local following Nigel left the band to rejoin a newly reinvigorated Sad Lovers & Giants (with Liam’s brother, Tony on guitar) and was replaced by Jon Greville from the hardcore three-piece Rudimentary Peni, on drums. This line up recorded the first album: FLESH ON FLESH, released on Midnight Music in 1984. Tours in Europe helped to build and consolidate the band's following, but despite being championed by the legendary DJ John Peel in the UK the story was largely one of press and radio indifference. Feeling a need to broaden the scope of their sound, the band added keyboards with the return of SL&G founder member David Wood. With the arrival of Jim Blanchard from label-mates the S-Haters, on bass guitar, this line-up recorded the band's second album SMOTHER EARTH. More gigs followed but UK recognition continued to elude the Snake Corps despite growing interest from around the world; the bulk of the band's record sales going overseas. Ian Gibson (recently having left the Mk2 version of SL&G) was eventually to replace David Wood on keyboards. With the collapse into chaos and insolvency of record label Midnight Music, the band raised the necessary funds themselves to record 3rd CUP at Berry Street Studios with Brad Grisdale at the controls. Dead Wax Records – DW041 (2023) inc. double sided insert + download code Days Of Sorrow is the brain-child of William Lennox (vocals, keyboards) and André Schreiber (bass), hailing from Dortmund (Germany). In 1981, they decided to form the band, at the time when Post-Punk / New Wave movement emerged. The first four piece line-up included Wolfram Huber (guitar) and Nicolai Sabotka (drums). John Tollhaus overheard them playing their song "Wild World" by chance, during a rehearsal and immediately offered the band to produce the band's first 12” EP. Several months later, the EP “Remembering The Days” was published by Tollhaus Records in 1984. Following up with two 7” single versions of "Wild World" and another 12” EP, called “A Thousand Faces” in 1986, shortly ahead of a scheduled Spanish tour, the band split up. In December 2017 William and André reformed "Days Of Sorrow", producing new material. We definitely lighted a spark when we released our DAYS OF SORROW – WHATEVER HAPPENS compilation some years ago. And we couldn’t be happier. William and André joined forces with Frank Junge at the keyboards and are now bringing DoS back to life with a lot of energy, constantly gigging and recording. 2020 saw the recording of an acoustic version of Wild World, made public through social media in the middle of the Corona pandemic. Dead Wax Records – DW039 (2023) On April 27, 1985 the German Post Punk / Goth Rock band JAYHAWKS recorded their first demo with the four songs ‘My Mirror’, ‘Happy Weekend’, ‘Sense of Humour’ and ‘Feel the Pain’ at the Studio Sachsenstraße in Bremen. Friends Benno, Mathe, Udo and Monika had just formed JAYHAWKS some months earlier in January, with Tom Lipinski joining them as lead guitarist in May, only days after the recording. As a five-piece, later in November they went into the Sound Service studios run by Jörg Siemer, who would produce new renditions of the demo tracks and additional songs with the band. The first one was the new recording of ‘My Mirror’, which was featured in the ‘Bremen-Deutschland’ sampler, published in December 1985. More visits to the studio and by the fall of 1986 ten songs had been finished, then Tom left the band and was replaced by Hardy Pelka. The spring of 1987 saw the release of the 12” ‘The Joy of Love’, containing the songs ‘Black Lover’, ‘Little Lover’, ‘Sense of Humour’ and ‘The Suitable Walk’. Apart from these four and ‘My Mirror’ on the mentioned ‘Bremen-Deutschland’ sampler, the rest of the songs of those early sessions remained unpublished and forgotten… until now. They were founded in 1979/1980 and existed until 1985. Their only release was a 12" with five tracks in 1981 on Sublabel, a daughter label of Torso. They played various times as a support act for Echo & the Bunnymen. Their postpunk / cold wave style has been compared to the likes of Joy Division or The Cure. The Dutch band NEON put out a glorious post-punk / cold wave five-song 12” in 1981, quite known amongst collectors worldwide. A DAY IN THE LAND OF LOST HORIZONS is a must, as simple as that. But when we found out that one song was left out of the 12” back then (reason now forgotten but who cares) and that they recorded six more songs shortly after, which have remained unheard and buried ever since, we were just awestruck. And the songs are so amazingly good. We are so lucky and proud of being able to rescue these recordings now, all from the original master tapes! Dead Wax Records – DW006 (2015) Comes in a matt finish sleeve with printed inner sleeve. Boys Say Go. Yes, the song that would become their name, by those British Depeche Mode, band which definitely influenced Anthony and Joe to go into another musical direction while still being Slow Children. But the future was coming and they were not being left behind. ‘Berliner Kindl Wesse’ was a song inspired by driving around Germany in an orange VW bug. Joe thought this was what they should have been listening to. This instrumental along with ‘Nu Song’, ‘Rain In The Dark’ and ‘Sorry’ were recorded but never released. The first vinyl came in 1983, the ‘Joey And Maria’ b/w ‘Love is Dangerous’ 7”. Cheap drum machine, plastic Casio keyboard… Dave Stempko played everything on it but the bass. Self-produced, recorded at Pyramid Studio by Larry Lessard and released on BSG’s own label Gender Records. Only 300 copies pressed… a minimal synth masterpiece impossible to find today. Later that year ‘Bang Bang De Boogie (Then We Dance)’ was recorded at Newbury Sound but the song remained unreleased. Then ‘Easy To Move’ was recorded at Joe Harvard’s So-So-Sound studio in 1984, with Anthony on the lead vocal and toy synth drums. Meant to be included on Harvard’s various artists compilation cassette entitled ‘Buy American’, the project was shelved and only a handful of cassette copies were given to friends. So we can consider it as unreleased. Later in 1984, ‘Do You Wanna Funk’ and ‘Serious Cat’ were featured on Gender Records’ ‘Hit The Floor’ compilation, followed by the ‘Humanity’ b/w ‘Holy War’ 12” single in 1985. These last two songs feature backing vocals by Hank Fay who was on loan to BSG from another synth band called Minks. And that was it. Fortunately, the recordings by Boys Say Go have been well preserved by Mr. Fagan and we’re very happy to put them together for you new wave / minimal synth lovers to enjoy them all today! Published in 1982 in 7” format, it fetches insane prices when seen for sale, so we decided that we had to make it available again for the people interested. This EP contains the first studio recordings by the band which changed name to Vision and managed to score quite a big alternative hit with their song Lucifer’s Friend that same year. Hence, the band got a big following but Danse Macabre has remained an obscure and nearly impossible to find release that many don’t even associate with the band! Dead Wax Records – DW023, Mecanica – MEC052 (2019) “Acción Contra El Pasado” was registered live at the I.N.B. Rey Pastor in Madrid on December 13th, 1980. It is one of the oldest live performances of which recorded evidence exists and is legendary not only for its age, but also for including some very rare songs, early covers by Kraftwerk and Sex Pistols and primal renditions of soon-to-become classic tracks. This live concert was executed under the “Aviador Dro y su Maquinaria Humana” one-time moniker, band members being Biovac N, Fox Cicloide, Placa Tumbler, Derflex Tipo IARR, CTA 102, X, Metalina 2 and Cyberjet. A priceless piece of Aviador Dro history that was luckily recorded onto cassette directly from the mixing desk and much to our delight has been carefully kept by a friend of ours for nearly 40 years, making this release possible. Despite its age, it has been lovingly restored and mastered by our Nico DeadWax (Nicolás Zúñiga) with fantastic results, sounding much better than one could expect from such an old cassette recording.
