I think it started inmarch 22 with 12 very lofi instrumentals that dive deep into my sonic identity with playing cheap drum-machines, synthesizers and free software. I initially wanted to make an album including friends I've made through the last years. As time flew by, caring for my newborn Karl, I undererstimated the sheer chaos that comes with collaborating with different people on an piece of music. Besides working my dayjob, taking care of a child and playing lots of shows with the Karl Kave & Durian Experience. Then my family went to Cambodia for three weeks. Without me. I knew I had the singular chance to make a step forward. So I worked every minute I had and put something together, that sat between 80s postpunk, 90s trash and 2004 electronica. I called it eurotrash,not knowing there's a Christian Kracht novel with that name. Some months passed and the music wore off. It lost it's spark. But I really loved the lyrics. So I started another round. I took the fun route (…) - It's a bit weird. It's digital clones of vintage instruments, that wanted to be a symbol of the future. Degraded by effects that turn the input to something voluntary bad. A highly over-used technique, that combines past with present. Superficially making something fall out of time, but at the same time, when exagerating it, those who know, can't be fooled at all. Euro89 aims to have a similiar effect on sound, that those Instagram filters try to have on pictures. At the first glimpse they make the material look older and vintage but they can’t hide the fact that it’s today’s world experienced through a nostalgic and melancholic lense. Thus, their lyrics deal with issues from inner struggle to the healing through dark emotions. Grey Gallows was formed in the winter of 2016 and consist of: Konstantin (Vocals / Keys) & Dionisis (Guitar / Bass / Keys) "Strangers" is the fourth full-length album by Grey Gallows in which they have found the artistic freedom and the support to fulfill their musical pursuit. Having experimented with both hardware and software analogue synths, aimed to enrich its style sonically and synthetically, incorporating more electronic elements than in their previous albums. Κeystone of the album is Konstantin’s baritone voice and the distinctive guitar sound of Dionisis. Moreover, the participation of two of the most important female singers in the broader dark sound of the scene in Greece and abroad, Kriistal Ann (Paradox Obscur) and Irini Tiniakou (Incirrina), has given the group a deeper expressive ability to approach different musical styles and feelings. Furthermore, the contribution of sound designer Nick "The Mute" Chaldoupis, with whom Grey Gallows have also collaborated on "Garden of lies", in the mixing and production of the album is of high importance, as he works once again as the 3rd member of the group, giving to the band its distinctive sound. Thus, Grey Gallows have accomplished to create a "palette" of songs from darkwave to minimal synth and cold wave, always having at the core of their influences the sound of the 80s-90s with a modern approach. Not long after that, the trio started to expand their sound more by experimenting several elements from various different genres. And not long after that, "Circa 1983", was born. "Circa 1983", is Camlann's second album that features 10 heart-pounding tracks combining pain and melancholia with fun and nostalgia. With strong elements of early 80's Dark Disco and Synth-Pop that are wrapped in a modern Darkwave twist, "Circa 1983", is ready to bring you to Camlann's own interpretation of the early 1980's. "Circa 1983", takes influences from the early 80s, where the dark and classy electronic music took place: Depeche Mode and Soft Cell, for example. You can clearly listen to those bands as you go on and on over, “Circa 1983”. Most of the songs in this album such as, "1983", "Obsession? Depression?", “Possessive and Possessed”, and “Dear My Younger Self” makes you feel like this: back in the 80s, feeling sad and emotional with this particular sound just like Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. They also take influences from Classic Disco and New Wave/Synthpop acts from the early 80's. In songs like “I’m Nobody”, “Metropolitan Boy”, "Dancing with my Pain", and "Hatred", you can hear some brighter influences and sounds that reminds you of New Order, Alphaphile, or even Donna Summer. Although, "Circa 1983", is dominated by dark disco and dark synth-pop sounds, Camlann gave us a surprise in the middle of the album with, "Give Me Light", which is quite different from the majority of the songs on this album. This is the darkest song on this album, maybe even the darkest song Camlann has ever made. It has thick modern Darkwave and Dark Post-Punk elements to it, and the theme of dark catholicism in this song also adds to the gloom of the song. "Circa 1983", is a perfect explanation of Camlann which is bleeky, melancholic, and nostalgic but also fun, modern, and full of hope. This album is definitely just the beginning of Camlann, but it definitely gives you excitement of what Camlann will bring in the future.
