Je M'en Fish – JMF202305 (2023)
Flesh & Fell was formed in the 80s as a project between musical wizard Pierre Goudesone and Femme Fatale-vocalist Catherine Vanhoucke – with a little help of legendary Luc Van Acker
(Shriekback, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Front 242, …).
Their demo landing in the hands of Jean-Marie Aerts (TC Matic in those days, but producer of various projects), the rest is history; Their debut 12’’ Maxi-single (PIAS) with flagship track ‘The Hunger’ was enthusiastically received, which resulted in the project attracting more members for a full live show, which was quickly picked up as support act for among others The Sisters Of Mercy or Luc Van Acker, as well as a club tour with artists such as Aroma Di Amore or The Scabs.
Their distinctive own version of ‘Emma’ (Hot Chocolate) drew the eyes of Hot Chocolate’s own parent label RAK, but ended up being releases as a new single through EMI, resulting in con- siderable airplay. Sadly enough, after this time period, health issues of the lead vocalist prevented the project of both continuing further live performance as well as recording the expected full album that was planned. The initial tracks gained a resurgence by being picked up heavily during the New Beat- Era (with varying speeds of them being played), but with Piere Goudesone’s other projects (Speaking T, Goudi, …), it finally took a change of lead singer with Laurence Castelain, and several years before the project being fully picked up again. Flesh & Fell saw a renaissance in 2013 with their first, sef-titled, full album, which was released through Out Of Line. Once again resulting a a multitude of live performances.
