Alice Gift – Nothing Against Uplifting But ... LP (Limited Edition 300 Turquoise Vinyl)
¥3,580
Icy Cold Records – ICR109-LP (2023) From the iconic waves of Velvet Condom to the rhythmic beats of Liste Noire, Alice Gift has always been a name synonymous with avant-garde post-punk music. Now, the Berlin-based Franco-German maestro is back, unveiling his latest work, “Nothing against uplifting but …”. With a style that effortlessly marries shoegaze, darkwave, and synthpop, Alice’s stage presence is still nothing short of electrifying. And he’s not alone in this musical journey. His aural soulmate Djamila Paris showcases her prowess on drums and keys, and to this day, the pair find sanctuary in a crypt nestled in the quiet corners of Neukölln/Berlin cemetery. Pride (Prequel) is a highlight that could have been done by Velvet Condom ! Bandcamp 試聴 https://cymbelinerecords.bandcamp.com/album/alice-gift-nothing-against-uplifting-but

Venin Carmin – Toxic Legends LP (Limited Edition 400 Black Vinyl)
¥4,180
Icy Cold Records – ICR115, No Need Name – NNN-VNC-001 (2023) Born out from the ’80s underground music’s nurtured deviant imagination of Lula Borgia, with the prompt addition of Valentine Dedieu on the machines, the ‘sanguine pop’ French duo Venin Carmin delivers, since 2017, an uncompromising, unapologetic blend of New Wave with blood-red Pop and Cold Punk. The “H2D” single is the best way to enter into their universe. Dystopic, jeering, heady moods stir up bouncy skipping rhythms, throbbing resonant bass lines, frenzied icy bright melodies, and warped echoing stabs, to sway in chilly, dire frequencies around catchy layered vocals, releasing taunting laughs, caustic cries, and trippy echoes, into a detached chaos of surreal grooves. Immersive and imaginative, the visuals shuffle a brash and sassy performance by Venin Carmin with symbolic black-and-white scenes to sync seamlessly with the busy, in-yourface, energy of the soundtrack. Eye-catching wardrobe, fantasy make-up, and edgy attitudes set the stage for a day-to-night transition where the dynamic duo wanders from the graveyard to a strobing party scene, without missing a dramatic beat. Sacred Skin – The Decline Of Pleasure LP (First Press Limited Edition 500 Black Vinyl)
¥3,980
Synthicide – SYN 010, Remote Viewing – RV006 (2022) The breath-taking debut from LA's Sacred Skin! This edition is a first pressing collaboration between Synthicide and Remote Viewing on black vinyl. Los Angeles-based duo Brian DaMert and Brian Tarney explore the vastness of spellbinding, anthemic pop music under the name Sacred Skin. The New wave/synth-pop duo formed in Los Angeles in 2020 under the name ‘Second Skin’, but changed their name to Sacred Skin in February 2022. The first single, 'Colder' was released in March of 2021, when the band immediately stole the hearts of dark souls everywhere with their melancholic undertones and pitch perfect songwriting.Subsequent singles “Eyes Closed” and “Far Away” landed them early live shows at LA’s Sub-stance Festival and the famed venue, the Hollywood Palladium. This succession of singles and live dates led to the release of their first LP, 'The Decline of Pleasure' in May of 2022. Blending distinctive, dreamy new-wave arrangements with DaMert’spowerful vocals infused with lust and longing, the album is unlike anything in its class. Their use of early digital outboard gear and samplers, namely the Sequential Prophet VS synthesizer and the EMU Emulator II, retains a classic, timeless studio feel. 'The Decline of Pleasure' brims with love and hope, transporting the listener to a more innocent and carefree experience, as we move from the era of isolation into a bold new landscape. House of Harm – Playground LP (Limited Edition 500 Violet-White Marbled Vinyl)
¥4,280
SOLD OUT
Avant! – AV!088 (2023) The new record builds and expands upon the three-piece’s enthralling shadow-pop sound, a mix of midnight atmospherics, 90s era jangle pop, and contagious synth drenched hooks that further elevate the transcendent vocals of lead singer Michael Rocheford. Rounded out by Cooper Leardi (guitar / synths) and Tyler Kershaw (guitar / synth), House of Harm have amassed an impressive following as something of a best kept secret among their growing fanbase, leading to sold out shows on both coasts by the power of word of mouth alone. The band members have been drawn to music for as long as any of them can remember, and the drive to be around like-minded artists and make their own noise drew them all to Boston after high school. There they all quickly enmeshed themselves, playing in other bands before meeting each other. Ever since, House of Harm have been quietly making a name for themselves among music fans with darker pop persuasions via a steady stream of releases in single, ep and album form. That attention to detail and workmanlike approach at the expense of chasing instant gratification seems to be paying dividends after years of steady effort. The journey of their new album Playground saw House of Harm stay true to that ethos. The band painstakingly narrowed the record down to an efficient 10 tracks that they felt made the most sense, both standing on their own as well as fitting into an LP that built a cohesive world for the listener to get lost in. The album’s name also reflects the experimentation and happy accidents that came about during the writing and recording process. On “The Face of Grace” they set out to explore different dynamics by writing a song entirely without drums, but couldn't help themselves from putting emphasis on the song’s 6/8 waltz time signature. “Two Kinds” is another first for House Of Harm in that it’s predominantly driven by acoustic guitar. That aforementioned vulnerability shows up in other areas of the songwriting process as well with “Two Kinds”, one of their most revealing songs to date from a lyrical standpoint, written from a place of reflection and weakness and tackling feelings uneasy to be put on display for public consumption. Taken as a whole, the end result is an album representing a collection of the band’s most raw and expressive songs yet. Skemer – Toasts & Sentiments LP (Limited Edition 100 Smoked Clear Vinyl)
¥4,480
Avant! – AV!087 (2023) After a hiatus of quite some time, the Belgian duo composed by the world renowned model Kim Peers and post-metal band Amenra’s guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove, is finally back with a new full-length album. Four years have passed since their debut Benevolence. Meanwhile Skemer took the time to let all sides of their personality grow and eventually explode. You remember their minimalist cold wave deconstructions equally made of brutal and erotic components. A duality deeply rooted in the band’s music as well as in their line-up and obviously their live shows, where romantic and ethereal atmospheres collide with the gothic side of electronic and techno music. This is even more present on their new LP Toasts & Sentiments. Eleven new cuts where every side of Skemer’s nature gets its own share of expression only to leave you wrapped in one pitch black cloak. A few episodes in the duo's native language Dutch, add even more mystery to the occult receipt. Get in the introspective, tranche insistent riff on the opening track Eyelashes and get catapulted, quite literally, on the dark side of the moon. Keep on wandering the alien surface with Seen and its solemn gait. Pick up your pace with the pounding drums of Easy To Embrace and Kiss Me Kill Me. Go down the stairs to the dungeon of the club culture with lead singles Overgave and Out Of Favor claustrophobic electro. Remain bogged down in the darkness with New Born Babe, get slapped by Apocalypse’s industrial trance crescendo. Rest and collapse with the final track’s texture of ambient synths and reverberating guitars. It may have taken four years for Skemer to present their new creation but it was definitely worth the wait. Walk the night with us. Skemer – Benevolence LP (Second press Limited Edition 300 Clear Vinyl)
¥3,980
Avant! – AV!064 (2019)(2023) Skemer is a brand new cooperation between singer Kim Peers, who's also a model for Vogue, Steven Meisel, Prada and guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove of post-metal band Amenra and his personal project Syndrome. Two very different worlds collide and lead to minimalist dark wave deconstructions that are equal parts brutal and erotic. This duality is reflected in the name Skemer, which next to its obvious English meaning of 'intriguer' also stands for ‘dusk’ in Mathieu’s native tongue West-Flemish, as well as in their debut album. Recorded just a few months after meeting, a sense of urgency shines through in the tracks that build Benevolence. The winding sensuality of Sunseeker juxtaposed with the pounding harshness of Best, the faint twirl of Call Me versus the solemn gait of Heartbreak. Just like with their effervescent live performances where Peers seductive vocals coalesce with Vandekerckhove's austere beats to meld into a transcendent fury. Everything has a double nature in the hands of Skemer. Bandcamp試聴 https://skemer.bandcamp.com/album/benevolence

Plague Pits – Creatures LP (Limited Edition 100 Opaque Violet Vinyl / Hand Numbered)
¥4,980
Transnecropolitan – TNP04 (2023) Plague Pits is a collective from Bern, Switzerland. Inspired by the D.I.Y. electronic tape underground of yore, they play disco dirges for the Anthropocene – cold wave for a heating planet. Conceived and recorded over a span of six months in early 2022. Released on TRANSNECROPOLITAN as a digital, limited cassette and limited vinyl album. “While waiting in the bread line/to collect your crumbs/Give thanks to the master/Whose table they fall from” is the first lyrical couplet on Plague Pits’ Creatures, the words delivered wryly against a throwback synthpop instrumental. That track, “The Dignity of Serfdom”, is a pretty clear mission statement from the Swiss collective, encapsulating both the political and social perspectives that define the record lyrically, and the classic synth stylings of its instrumentation. There’s a careful balance at play here, one that the record’s success hinges upon: trading on inherently nostalgic musical ideas and sounds, without having them overshadow the actual material. Plague Pits’ approach is to keep things fluid and not drink too deeply from any specific well of inspiration. While the aforementioned “The Dignity of Serfdom” and “Beasts of the Field” put me in mind of The Human League pre-Dare with their snappy drum programming and nice clean mix, there’s a distinctly more punky energy at play on the manic Normal-esque “Like Drowning”. They even nod to genre forebearers on instrumentals “Polyethylene” and “Lights Out for the Territory”, which are possessed of the dignified and wistful air of the earliest strains of electronic pop. Interestingly, you can easily see the way in which the album’s thematics – urban and techological alienation, social and religious hypocrisy – feel both appropriate to the retro-flavour of the record and relevant to the current political climate. You could easily be forgiven for assuming “Ghost Acreage”‘s screed against the dehumanizing nature of labour in a capitalist society hailed from Thatcherite Britain, but the warehouses it invokes could just as easily belong to Amazon. In that same way, there’s a timelessness to the mock piety with which “Magadalene” makes its point about coded ideas of ‘purity’ and its use as a means of control that is depressingly easy to relate to current conservative political movements. Hell, “01001010010” uses a sample of a reading from “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” in lieu of any original lyrics, pinpointing that story’s prescient view of our relationship with technology in ways that feel pointed in a way the toothless satire of Black Mirror can only dream of." - Alex Kennedy, I DIE : YOU DIE - Bandcamp 試聴 https://thisisplaguepits.bandcamp.com/album/creatures

Davíd Wunderlich – First They've Built Their Walls Cassette Tape (Limited Edition 50 Neon Pink)
¥1,980
Unterschall – US-007 (2023) In his debut EP, Davíd Wunderlich is reflecting on his teenage years in a small and conservative suburb many might be familiar with. Each one of the six tracks is a personal reckoning with the lethargy within this world, the longing for escape, the successful breakout, and ultimately the alienated return to a place characterized by social coldness, uniformity, and toxic masculinity. Nestled between synth-pop and post-punk, the EP exhibits grandeur as well as quiet, introspective moments. Drum machines with (synth-)basslines provide the energetic foundation, while minimalist guitars and eclectic samples set the mood. Davíd Wunderlich's warm and deep tenor voice, accompanied by background choirs, is narrating its stories with a tinge of melancholy and accusation. The Neon Judgement – Blue Screens 1995-2009 LP (Limited Edition 100 Fade Effect Clear to Blue & 100 White W/ Grey Marble + Blue Splatter Vinyl)
¥5,280
Je M'en Fish – JMF202304 (2023) Little need for most to present ‘The Neon Judgement’. Together with Front 242, they were Belgian’s pioneers during the eighties of developing a unique sound, being coined instead of New Wave to become the new ‘EBM’ or ‘Electronic Dance Music’. But what of the later period? Well, here is a snippet of later work, remastered and for the first time on vinyl. Dirk Timmermans (aka Dirk Da Davo) and Frank Vloeberghs (aka TB Frank) created The Neon Judgement in the early eighties, the first tapes combining harsh minimalist industrial sounds with their trademark guitar and synth wizardry. Classics like ‘The Fashion Party’ are favorites to this day and were for instance still played at the 2023 Dour Festival by Aphex Twin, but other tracks like ‘TV Treated’ ‘Miss Brown’ ‘Awful Day’ and more are engraved in the minds of most. With most releases being done on Play It Again Sam (PIAS), the nineties took a different turn, both labelwise and musicwise, with Dazsoo on KK Records (Bauhaus, FLA, Vomito Negro, ...), At Devil’s Fork on Synthetic Symphony (Die Krupps, Welle: Erdball, K. Schulze ...) and last but not least, Smack on LC Music / Dancedelic-D (Dirk Da Davo’s own label). Soundcloud 試聴 https://soundcloud.com/the-neon-judgement/sets/the-neon-judgement-blue-screens-samples

Flesh & Fell – Icarus LP (Limited Edition 500 Yellow Vinyl)
¥3,180
Je M'en Fish – JMF202305 (2023) Flesh & Fell was formed in the 80s as a project between musical wizard Pierre Goudesone and Femme Fatale-vocalist Catherine Vanhoucke – with a little help of legendary Luc Van Acker (Shriekback, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Front 242, …). Their demo landing in the hands of Jean-Marie Aerts (TC Matic in those days, but producer of various projects), the rest is history; Their debut 12’’ Maxi-single (PIAS) with flagship track ‘The Hunger’ was enthusiastically received, which resulted in the project attracting more members for a full live show, which was quickly picked up as support act for among others The Sisters Of Mercy or Luc Van Acker, as well as a club tour with artists such as Aroma Di Amore or The Scabs. Their distinctive own version of ‘Emma’ (Hot Chocolate) drew the eyes of Hot Chocolate’s own parent label RAK, but ended up being releases as a new single through EMI, resulting in con- siderable airplay. Sadly enough, after this time period, health issues of the lead vocalist prevented the project of both continuing further live performance as well as recording the expected full album that was planned. The initial tracks gained a resurgence by being picked up heavily during the New Beat- Era (with varying speeds of them being played), but with Piere Goudesone’s other projects (Speaking T, Goudi, …), it finally took a change of lead singer with Laurence Castelain, and several years before the project being fully picked up again. Flesh & Fell saw a renaissance in 2013 with their first, sef-titled, full album, which was released through Out Of Line. Once again resulting a a multitude of live performances.
