An album filled with obscure atmospheres, hypnotic rhythms, electronic melodies, experimental interludes and the unique and mesmerizing voiceof Akikawabaya. Since the release of the album “The Castle I” in 1984, Tomo Akikawabaya became disappointed with the music scene in Japan and thought that the only way to continue as a musician was to release his music abroad. After finishing recording some new songs, he embarked on an adventurous trip to London in order to look for an opportunity for a new release. Unfortunately, after three months and despite meeting many artists and important people in the music industry, luck was not on Akikawabaya's side and with time running out he had to return to Japan without a concrete proposal. In the following years, although he continued to work with his long-time partner Takaaki Han-ya with a project called Beata Beatrix, he never published anything and later focused to other activities. It was not until 2015, that the New York label Minimal Wave released “The Invitation of The Dead” - compiling songs from “The Castle” (1984) and “Anju” (1985 - both originally re-leased on his own label Castle Records. Tomo Akikawabaya is currently working under the moniker of Th, together with his wife Rinko, on a project called The Future Eve. Although a mirror or extension of the previous Péril, COMMENCEMENT differs from it in this way: the atmosphere of the brief interludes that punctuated Péril is now built within most of the pieces, through introductions, suspension bridges or extended finales, thus offering more complex spaces to visit. The duo offers catchy melodies, via synths and vocals, while their bouncy rhythmic signature is still present on several tracks. Composed of 10 eclectic tracks, the album harmonizes through meticulous arrangements. It also constructs it's logic through a narrative framework composed of stripped-down words, acting as incantations. Young And Cold Records – YCR/162 (2024) “Optograms” is the debut album by CORBEAU HANGS after a release of 3 digital singles. CORBEAU HANGS is a fresh US-Darkwave project from Phoenix/Arizona that describes itself as “Darkwave from the hellholes of PHX”. Not much is known about CORBEAU HANGS yet, but they make no secret of the fact that they are part of the still bubbling Darkwave/Cold-wave-trend, mixing various influences from modern acts like Twin Tribes, She Past Away as well as classic artists such as Clan of Xymox, Pink Turns Blue... , it combines the rawness of post-punk with the ambience and grittiness of synths and drum machines. And that pretty much hits the nail on the head – additionally you can certainly hear also some influences by the early Drab Majesty… The basic of Drum Machines and spacey Synth sounds is complemented by driving, hammering and accentuated Wave Guitars and pleasantly non-clichéd vocals. Despite the fundamentally melancholic mood, all of this is produced in a fresh, fluffy manner and immediately sticks in the listeners ears. It's difficult to single out individual songs because the album as a whole is very homogeneous and, with repeated listening, it creeps into the listener's head and doesn't leave it again. Although there is a lot of competition in this musical style, you never know whether one or two songs will end up on the Club playlists and become instant hits for the Darkwave-scene?Who would have expected that at the beginning of acts like Bragolin or Twin Tribes? They were formed in March 2019 by Nassos Vlachakis, Nik Panik, Michael Stefanidis and Yiannis Voulgaris and on November 9th of that same year, they made their first live appearance as a support band at the Astronauts gig at the “An" club. One month later, they entered the studio and recorded live their first EP "State of Emergency". It included 6 tracks that paved their mark as a "stage" band. Mixing, mastering and production of the EP was made by band members, Nassos Vlachakis and Yiannis Voulgaris. The EP came out on January 2020, on digital form, and one month later, on tape. In February 28th, 2020 they presented their EP at "Idrima 2.14" live stage. From March 2020 onwards and during the covid-19 lockdowns, they focused on writing new material. In 2022 Yiannis Voulgaris, left the band and in 2023 Babis Antaloudakis came to his place as the main drummer. In September 2023, they finished the recordings of their debut LP, titled, “Wired”. Produced By Nassos Vlachakis, mixed and mastered on tape by Theodoros Bournas, ”Wired” is the band’s first full-length release compiled by 8 new great sounding tracks. Traurig schauen die Berge" combines a homerecording sound with sureal lyrics that reflect living in rural switzerland. Diving into a odd walk of inner repetitions. A friend called it Föhn Wave. A strangely warm Wind from the Alps. There are tales and studies about the Föhn driving people mad. Inducing headaches at least. Where I live is plenty of föhn. I tried to get into a coherent world of phonetical thinking. All decorated by two neglected consumer class synths. The Yamaha TQ5, that looks like a telephone answering machine and the Korg DW6000, the last cheap analog polysynth from back in the days. The mastering of Pete Burns (Kill Shelter) did it's best to put the audio together and Luca Schenardis illustration work gave the album a home in the visual world.
